The Internet Explorer 6 Wrench

Wow, IE6 really throws a wrench into world of web markup. The site looks good in all the browsers (Firefox, Opera, Safari), except for IE6. Fixing it is on my to-do list. I’ll also need to test it in IE7…yikes…fingers crossed. Mental note, check on IE6 as you code and not after you’re “finished.”

When I decided to redo my website I wanted it to be as painless a process as possible. Hence, the decision for minimalism. How does this have anything to do with a painless process? Nothing.

I learned early on that a minimalist approach to the site design and features, albeit a good intention, was in fact much more difficult one than I had anticipated. Adding features and graphics to a website can get out of control, so much so, that it can turn ugly very quickly. But, holding back on all of that can prove difficult at times. Holding back while having a clear and simpe website may seem easy but it really isn’t. This is an example of less is more.

In web design/coding, there’s a time to let go.

It’s happened to me before during my previous website redesigns: it’s almost done, and then, I don’t know what it is, but I start fidgeting with the design or features. A tweak here, a tweak there. The next thing I know a week has gone by. At this rate of fidgeting it may never get done!

It’s okay though. It’s all part of the process of wanting to have things turn out just right. I’m pretty much happy with what I have now with respect to design. The gallery has undergone several iterations but I think it’s pretty much almost done as well. The next few days should see the site complete and made available for public consumption.

Here it goes. Just putting the final touches on my new site. But, the way things are going with always fiddling here and there

it could just take another few years to complete it.
